Breeding advice

The selection of the best sires to produce the next generation of horses is one of the breeder’s key decisions.

Problem

Selecting the best sires

The aim of the owner-breeder is to produce horses that triumph in the most prestigious races, while a commercial breeder concentrates on breeding horses that command high prices at sales.

With dozens, and sometimes even hundreds, of sires to choose from, making informed selections represents a significant and time-consuming challenge.

Kyllaros provides extensive and impartial support to horse breeders by assessing the genetic potential of Thoroughbred sires.

We analyse the results of the sire and his offspring on the racecourse and in the sales ring using scientifically validated methods.

Solution

statistical analysis

Our statistical analyses yield three index values for a sire: a Race Index, a Sales Index and a Distance Index. The Race Index indicates the likelihood that his offspring will win a Group 1 race. The Sales Index measures the probability that his yearlings will command high prices at auctions. The Distance Index estimates the optimal racing distance for his offspring.

The Race Index and the Sales Index are presented on a relative scale, ranging from 1 (low) to 100 (high). A value of 100 signifies that the stallion ranks in the top 1% of available sires. The Distance Index is expressed in furlongs. Below is a table that includes practical examples of a few renowned sires in Britain and Ireland.
